MISSION STATEMENT
The School District of Sturgeon Bay’s School Counselors strive to maximize each student’s educational experience by providing opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become fulfilled individuals, life-long learners, competent workers, and contributing citizens who will thrive in and impact a diverse and dynamic world.
PHILOSOPHY
The school counselors are an integral part of the team of family, educators and the community that helps our students reach their full potential and be successful in life.
The philosophy guiding the School District of Sturgeon Bay’s Counseling Program incorporates the following:
- The School Counseling Program endorses the theme that “Every child can learn”.
- The School Counseling Program is comprehensive and addresses the students’ academic, career, personal, social and emotional development at all levels.
- The School Counseling Program fosters the development of mutual respect and helps insure the physical and emotional safety of all students at school.
- The School Counseling Program is proactive and designed to meet the developmental needs of all students.
- The School Counseling Program is based on specified goals and developmental competencies for all students.
- The School Counseling Program uses data to drive program development and evaluation.
- The School Counseling Program encourages the participation and fosters the support and partnership of families.
- The School Counseling Program promotes the involvement of community resources.
- The School Counseling Program is planned and coordinated by school counseling teams in coordination with other school, parent or guardian and community representatives.
- The School Counseling Program is implemented by highly qualified, state certified counselors.
- The School Counseling Program abides by the Professional Counseling Ethics by the Wisconsin School Counselor Association and the American School Counselor Association.
FOUR PROGRAM COMPONENTS INCLUDE:
- School Counseling Curriculum: content delivered in a systematic manner to all students covering the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for School Counseling
- Individual Planning: assist students in planning and managing their academic, personal/social, and career development
- Responsive Services: address the personal/social concerns of students
- System Support: includes program, staff, and school support activities
